Risk Factors for Macular Degeneration

While there are many risk factors that are involved in Age Related Macular Degeneration, age is the greatest of all. Most major medical studies show that people age 60 and over have a higher risk than all other age groups and they are most concerned with how to stop macular degeneration. Aside from age, other risk factors include smoking, obesity, race, family history, and gender. Research studies have shown that there is a link in increased risk for AMD and smoking and obesity and you should be aware of the symptoms of macular degeneration. In addition, Caucasians are at a greater risk compared to African Americans, and recent studies have shown that women appear to be at a higher risk than men.
